HUMANIZATION IN RADIOLOGY: MAMMOGRAPHY AND EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF BREAST CANCER BY TECHNOLOGISTS
Background: Breast cancer is the most prevalent neoplasm among women, representing a public health challenge that demands attention and effective diagnostic and treatment strategies. Mammography is the fundamental examination for early detection, allowing the identification of breast changes in initial stages, which is crucial for increasing survival rates. Radiology technologists are responsible for the acquisition, manipulation, evaluation, and documentation of the images obtained. This article discusses the importance of humanization in care, highlighting how empathy and support can positively influence patients' experience during screening and diagnosis. Objective: To highlight the intersection between technique and humanization in radiological practice in the detection of breast cancer. Methods: The methodology of this research involved a literature review. A bibliographic search was conducted in databases such as Google Scholar, SCIELO, BIREME, and the Virtual Health Library (BVS), with the aim of identifying and selecting the best available scientific evidence on the subject. Results: The literature highlights that clear communication, in which the healthcare professional explains the procedure and clarifies doubts, is essential to create an environment of trust. This not only facilitates the examination but also encourages women to return for future screenings, which are fundamental in the early detection of breast cancer. Radiology professionals must be trained and aware of the importance of a humanized relationship with patients, ensuring that each one receives quality care and examination, respecting their needs and concerns, especially in challenging times, such as those faced after the pandemic period. Conclusions: The results also show that, in addition to technical skills, humanizing care is a relevant factor in minimizing negative impacts on patients' experience, promoting a more welcoming and safe environment within examination rooms. Creating a space that is physically and emotionally comfortable for women can provide a sense of security and tranquility, which is fundamental for breast cancer screening to be seen as a preventive practice, and not as something frightening.
